In Key Stage 2, children are explicitly taught French for at least 30 minutes per week. At Kingstone, it is our intent that French is an inspiring, exciting, meaningful and memorable subject. Using spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources, as well as through singing, children will achieve their full potential in their languages learning. This will include: developing an appreciation of language, speaking with increasing confidence and fluency, and being able to write for different purposes. Ultimately, our pupils will feel enthused, willing and able to continue studying and using languages in high school and beyond. We intend that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating. Learning  French will also offer pupils the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of others and cultural differences. The intention is that our children work towards becoming life-long language learners.

Our intent is also to celebrate and be proud of all the other languages spoken by our children and their families at home.
